nock, nock...

Do any of you even read this anymore...?
I'm nannying again, so there are inevitable stories that come up. I think the good ones still need to be shared (Comment if you agee, really, go, do it).
Like what happened today.

There are a lot of things filming in Atlanta right now. We have some tax law movie makers like and well, Atlanta is sweet, southan and just plan wonderful ya'll!
I don't go more than 2 days without seeing filming crews in a new spot. It's kind of weird actually.
{Ok, I'm also annoyed that I've yet to see a famous person - Tom Hanks is running around, Jennifer Garner and Betty White were here. 2 Words: Ryan Reynolds. I have to run into someone soon. Have to.}

Anyway, today I was driving with child A to go pick up child B. Child A is 5 years old. We passed the hurt building downtown and I pointed out the trucks and trailers. I thought, hey a 5 year old would think a movie being made is cool. He looks up and says...

"Well, I hope it's not American Pie!"

What....?
American Pie. You weren't even thought of when that movie was made.
Wait....
How do you know anything about that movie.

I assured him it was not American Pie and then dropped the subject.
I mean...what do you say after that...?

from the mouths of babes

My baby cousin Katelynn turned 10 yesterday.
She wanted to invite a boy to her birthday party. Her parents axed that idea. She knew it was for the best.
Apparently, she said to my uncle recently,

"True love is so hard."

Amen sister, A.MEN.

the darndest things

Sometimes I just need to share the things I hear (or say myself). As a teacher or 3yr olds- there's quit a collection. My favorite from today was rather sweet.

"Ms. Lambiotte, you're so brave."
We were sitting down eating snack, nothing that took much bravery (aside from opening goldfish) led her to this sweet conclusion.

Then I made a stop at the grocery store and saw a student. She was amazed. I mean, I don't live at school?? As her mom pulled her wide eyes away and I said I'd see her in the morning, all she could muster was,

"I saw you..."

also-

If I had a penny for every time I said
" _____ put your shoes back on!"
...and
"______ pull your pants up!"
I'd be a rich woman. Bet YOU don't say those phrases very often ;).

they notice

That's what I love about kids. They pay attention. When they want to. When you least expect it.
I have countless examples, but one happened today.

One of our quieter children, who we have to pull things out of and who acts as if they can't hear us (selective hearing obviously) was standing alone in the other 3yr old classroom- just the other teacher was there. The room is similar to our but still fairly different.

The child stood, still, quiet, hands in pockets and said, "You have small groups in here?" after noticing a small group chart similar to the one in our room. The teacher replied yes. Then the student said "...and centers?" The teacher replied yes.
The child just nodded and kept looking around the room.
Observing. Noticing. Taking it in. Paying attention to something outside their own world.

We could all learn something from that.

isn't this inappropriate

This Sunday when I babysat for desperate dad and crew I got the privilege to see all three children (for now that is- mom's due with number 4 in a few months).
The oldest (the gem I take some credit for) made yet another uniquely fabulous comment this weekend. We were coloring some pictures, she picked up this one

...and said, "Isn't this is inappropriate?".

That's right. She's 9. She followed with "She doesn't have any clothes on." I had to remind her that Ariel is wearing the purple bathing suit top and you can't see it because of the water. Her 4 year old sister sister said, "Yeah, the bra.".

P.S. Turns out I'm not babysitting for one of my students just yet. When I do though, I'll be sure to share the experience! :)

if the crown fits.

So sometimes (ok always) the best part of being a nanny is the kids. They really do say the darndest things. I was babysitting one of my favorite little ones a few weeks ago and she informed me of something very important. "I've been to Cinderella's house!" She stated matter of factly while we played a Disney Princess Wii game. I said, "really, where does she live?" Her reply? "Disney World".

(Of course, I should've known.)

Then came the real kit and kaboodle. Without a thought to it, she said "I'm really good friends with all the princess'!" I guess that makes me a pretty lucky nanny then ;-)!
